Patriot Viper Venom RGB DDR5-7400 CL36 2x16GB Kit Review - PAGE 1
Mark Watkins - Wednesday, September 6th, 2023 Like SharePatriot Viper Venom RGB 32GB DDR5-7400 MHz Introduction
Patriot's Viper Venom RGB DDR5 modules are some of the fastest options on the market right now, and we have the fastest of that bunch for review here today! You can get the Viper Venom series in either RGB or non-RGB versions, with capacities of 2x8GB, 2x16GB and 2x32GB, and speeds ranging from DDR5-5200 up to DDR5-7400. The DDR5-7400 kit is pushing the limits for both AMD and Intel systems currently available, so the kit comes with multiple AMD EXPO and Intel XMP profiles for DDR5-7400, DDR5-7200, and DDR5-7000, with timings getting tighter as the speed decreases so performance loss will be minimal if your memory controller can’t handle the highest speed option. Without setting a profile, the kit will default to the JEDEC standard of DDR5-4800 as well.
Patriot provides a limited lifetime warranty on these modules, and they come with thermal sensors so you can keep an eye on the operating temperatures. Highly decorated aluminum heat spreaders provide solid cooling with dramatic design. You can get Patriot Viper Venom at most popular retailers, and this specific kit can found on Amazon for $111.99 USD when discounted, or B&H Photo as well as the Patriot Store for $134.99 USD.
Patriot Viper Venom RGB 32GB DDR5-7400 MHz Closer Look
The Patriot Viper Venom packaging is colorful, with a pair of memory with RGB lighting on the front cover. AMD EXPO support isn’t advertised on the front (but is listed on the product page), though Intel XMP 3.0 certainly is. A QR code on the pack makes it easy to look at the product page, while minor specifications are listed above in several languages. The memory modules arrive protected inside a clamshell plastic package, with a Viper Gaming sticker included.
After unboxing the Patriot Viper Venom, we can see that both sides of the heat spreaders are identical. The design of the Patriot Viper Venom looks aggressive out of the box, and pairs very well when installed on a motherboard with a black PCB. The RGB lighting synced well with the MSI motherboard and EVGA graphics card with the Hybrid cooler.
The aluminum heat spreaders have different cut outs and reliefs that add a lot of style, while the RGB LED diffuser does a great job at both throwing light and utilizing the heat spreaders for a more unique side-angle view. You can come up with some fun RGB combinations that pair well with other major RGB platforms; in my case we have MSI Mystic Light Sync and EVGA combined for a dramatic light show.

Patriot Viper Venom RGB 32GB DDR5-7400 MHz Testing
To test the Patriot Viper Venom RGB 32GB DDR5-7400 MHz memory kit, we will use the latest Intel Raptor Lake i9-13900K CPU on an MSI Z790 Carbon WiFi motherboard. Testing is done with factory EXPO settings first, and then with overclocked settings that push for what users can reasonably expect to achieve with this kit.
Testing Setup
- Case: Corsair iCUE 4000X RGB
- Motherboard: MSI MPG Z790 Carbon WiFi
- CPU: Intel i9-13900K
- CPU Cooler: Thermaltake TOUGHLIQUID Ultra 360
- GPU: EVGA GeForce RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra Hybrid
- RAM: Patriot Viper Venom RGB 32GB DDR5-7400 MHz (2x16GB) Kit
- OS SSD: XPG Atom 50 1TB M.2 PCIe Gen4 x4
- OS: Windows 11 Pro
- PSU: EVGA Supernova 1600 P+
My system booted right up with the fastest XMP setting, though it didn’t really want to overclock much beyond this without pushing past the voltage wall. I tested all three XMP profiles; DDR5-7000 has great performance, and it only gets better IF you’re able to do the faster profiles! DDR5-7400 has huge amounts of bandwidth available, and some fiddling with timings could probably shave the latency further. Even if you’re not a tinkerer, this kit is already well-dialed-in out of the box.
Patriot Viper Venom RGB 32GB DDR5-7400 MHz Conclusion
Patriot Viper Venom is extremely fast! It is hard to beat this kit for the price-to-performance ratio it provides at the regular price of $134.99 USD, and especially if you can grab it at a sale price of $111.99 USD on Amazon retailers – Newegg also has some of the different options available. The lifetime warranty is always a nice touch too, and if you ever have issues Patriot is easy to get ahold of.
