This is a sidequest part of the main quest "Infiltrate Moonrise Towers", and we can start it by talking to the Tiefling Bex in the Last Light Inn area. She's located on the northern side, next to the river and behind the barn.
She tells us about Danis, another Tiefling that was taken to Moonrise Towers, alongside several others. This is one of the several quests that has us go to Moonrise Towers. I'll see you guys other there.
Find the Tieflings
The Tieflings are found at the Prison in Moonrise Towers. Head there either through the Underdark or the Mountain Pass. Get protection from the Shadow Curse and meet with Ketheric Thorm. After the scene, look for Adept Nola who should be on Ketheric's right side. There are some stairs near the Adept that lead to another set going downwards.
This leads to the Prison, where you will find some Tieflings stuck in a cage. You can't free them by yourself, and the guards will approach you if you talk to any prisoner. Fortunately, a Persuasion or Deception check will let you speak with the prisoners freely. Failing results in a fight.
Check Type | Difficulty To Clear | Success | Failure |
---|---|---|---|
Deception | 14 | Can talk with the prisoners | Fight the prison guards |
Persuasion | 14 | Can talk with the prisoners | Fight the prison guards |
The Tieflings will ask you to speak to Wulbren who is planning an escape. Speak to Wulbren and he refuses to trust you. If you spoke to Barcus and freed him during your adventure in the Underdark, mentioning his name will be enough. Otherwise, you can use a Persuasion or Deception check. The option with the Tieflings is harder, but you get an advantage.
Check Type | Difficulty To Clear | Success | Failure |
---|---|---|---|
Persuasion | 10 | Wulbren trusts you | Wulbren isn’t convinced |
Persuasion | 6 | Wulbren trusts you | Wulbren isn’t convinced |
Deception | 6 | Can talk with the prisoners | Fight the prison guards |
Wulbren requires items to break out of the cell. You only need one item, but it must come from one of the following categories:
- Greatclub
- Quarterstaff
- Mace
- Light Hammer
- Warhammer
- Pickaxe
You don't need to give Wulbren an expensive object; a simple weapon bought from a merchant will do the trick. The upcoming fight will put you up against Level 8 guards and a Level 9 Warden. It might be smarter to hold onto the weapon and fight the Warden in the center of the prison first. Close the doors to prevent reinforcements from coming through. Have a unit block the staircase to prevent the Warden from climbing up.
The Warden will use Invisibility and Ensnaring spells, but without reinforcements she will fall to a concentrated assault. She will use Invisibility and climb up the ladder to pelt you with spells from above. If a unit stands in front of the ladder, you prevent her from using it to gain a height advantage. It's easy to concentrate your attacks with Karlach/Lae'zel doing damage while everyone else fights from a distance.
Take care of the guards once the Warden is down. With the exception of Adept Keris, they all use an axe and a crossbow. Rushing Attack will close in on your units, letting them deal massive close combat damage. Keris will use spells such as Hunger of Hadar to Blind and Slow everyone down while making them take damage. It's easier to take out Keris first, then focus on the other guards.
Once everyone is dead, you can hand Wulbren the tools and wait for him to bust open the wall. Go through said wall and meet him by the boat at the end. The Tieflings must be safe and alive, which means you must convince Wulbren to send them to Last Light.
After arriving at Last Light, speak to Alfira and a scene will play. You will get several rewards, which include:
- Potent Robe
- Approx. 445 gold
- Scroll of Greater Invisibility
- Scroll of Dominate Person
- Scroll of Cone of Cold
- Elixir of Guileful Movement
- Potion of Greater Healing
- Potion of Speed
- Smokepowder Bomb
- Holy Water
