Creative Assembly confirms that its next Total War series spin-off will be A Total War Saga: Troy. As the title suggests, Troy will be based on nothing less than one the most important events in Greek mythology, the Trojan War as brought to life by Homer’s Iliad. The reveal trailer wastes no time highlighting the final confrontation between Achilles and Hector outside the walls of Troy.
According to the developer, A Total War Saga: Troy aims to incorporate both legends and history as part of its "truth behind the myth" design philosophy. While Greek gods won't literally be appearing in game for example, Troy's new "Gods and Favor" gameplay system will see player factions devoting themselves to these deities for a variety of resource and warfare benefits. That said, we can expect see some interesting interpretations of mythological creatures!
In addition to a heavy infantry-vs-infantry focus for mass combat, Troy will also adopt the "duelling" mechanics previously seen in Total War: Three Kingdoms for its "challenges" that pit opposing heroes against one another..
A Total War Saga: Troy is currently scheduled for release on PC via Steam some time next year.
