The Pokémon Company's big reveal today turns out to be Pokémon Unite, an upcoming team-based multiplayer battle game for the Nintendo Switch and mobile platforms!
Developed by Tencent's TiMi Studios (who most recently collaborated with Activision to produce Call of Duty Mobile), Pokémon Unite will offer 5-vs-5 cooperative team battles (crossplay between Switch and mobile platforms supported) on distinctly MOBA-inspired maps, complete with multiple "lanes". Victory is earned by outscoring your opponents within the time limit, and points are earned from multiple "goals" on the opposing team's side of the map.
Strategy has been cited to play a larger part of scoring in Pokémon Unite. Players capture their opponent's scoring areas using Pokémon, which begin each new match at the humble Level 1. By battling wild Pokémon, players can evolve their Pokémon and unlock new Moves including the all-new Unite Moves. Players can also catch wild Pokémon to unlock them for use in their rosters.
Pokémon Unite is expected to launch as a "free-to-start" game across all core platforms; further release details should follow shortly.
This is a new and challenging endeavor for @TiMiStudios. #PokémonUNITE offers a new twist on team battles, with a focus on the inherent fun of playing with Pokémon, offering battling, capturing and training Pokémon to evolve.https://t.co/q3yPmwXvsa pic.twitter.com/hCHn35upzi

This actually looks like something I could waste some time on. Hope the mtx push isn't too heavy
means you can play a couple terrible Pokemon for free but will have to fork out to unlock the actual good ones, so have fun with that.
if only nintendo was fully in charge of pokemon....
There was a time where game companies were not the exact definition of greed, and for those who were, they were pushed out of the picture by low sales and negative critics, as they should be. But times has changes. Maybe we're like early game journalism and good game company: a relic of the past.
Like i said to a friend, when you find a game that you will still love even in 10 years, treasure it. Because nothing can guaranteed you that his sequel will be as good.
Idk who is in charge of budgeting but the main series gets *bleep*ed by it too. It's infuriating.
