NPD/Circana reveals that Madden NFL 24 was the top-selling game at US retail for the month of August. This marks the twenty-fourth(!) consecutive year that a Madden title launched straight to the top of the monthly sales chart. Furthermore, dollar sales for Madden NFL 24 outsold those of Madden NFL 23 by a double-digit factor during their respective launch months. That's certainly enough to make Madden NFL 24 the sixth best-selling game of the year thus far into 2023 by Circana's reckoning.
Armored Core 6 meanwhile managed a second place finish on the US monthly software top 10 with launch day sales alone; the newest installment in FromSoftware's classic mech action series was released just one day before the end of Circana's reporting period for August.
Total revenue from gaming at US retail rose 3 percent year-over-year to $4.2 billion USD last month. Gaming content spend rose 4 percent to $3.72 billion, while monthly revenue for gaming accessories grew 12 percent to $159 million on account of PlayStation DualSense gamepad sales. This was tempered by slowing hardware revenue, which declined 13 percent year-over-year to $328 million. Sony's PlayStation 5 was the top-selling console for the month of August, followed by the Xbox Series X|S platform.
